About the 8th-grade global field trip:
This is a unique journey that lasts for four weeks. The goal of the field trip is to transform students' classroom abilities into life experiences that are different from their own nationalities and cultures. In the course of this year, 8th grade students will choose a non-Western country and study that country's economy, history, current affairs, art, literature, and culture. Through reading, class discussions, guest speeches, and field trips, students can have a deeper understanding of what they have learned. While experiencing culture during the journey, students can also learn courses from local craftsmen, meet pen pals, and participate in community service. After returning home, students will share their experiences with the entire Evergreen community by compiling journals, making slides and giving presentations, and opening exhibitions.

Q: Does the school focus on social and teamwork aspects?

Answer: Very much so. Evergreen School encourages students to actively participate in community service activities. Each class will participate in at least 1-2 community service projects. For example, first-grade students decorate food bags for Thanksgiving, fourth-grade students cook for Mary's Place (a refuge for women and children), and fifth-grade students participate in the Thornton Creek Alliance river protection program. The 7th-grade students cooperated with the Shoreline Environmental Department to educate the work types on river protection. Year 8 students build brick houses in Vietnam during a global field trip. In addition, the Middle School Service Club provides additional opportunities for interested students in grades 6-8 throughout the year to gain an in-depth understanding of local community services.
